For this patient situation the interest is in documenting post-operative
functional improve-ment. The task results especially those for the barriers
test indicate very this well (see traces below with equal scales) as the
excessive roll is reduced post-operatively and the time to complete the task
is less. Other tasks that can be used to illustrate the functional improvement
of the patient are the get-up-and-go task (increased trunk flexion during
getting up, de-creased trunk roll during walking should be seen post-operatively).
Though roll angle devia-tions are reduced for the barriers and stairs
tasks post-operatively, these still remain in upper percentile of normal,
suggesting that rehabilitation should pay careful attention to a falling tendency.
Stance on 2 legs is very stable in these patients, especially in the roll
direction when standing on foam, indicating that these patients may be
standing stiffer than normal.
